Nevada Reading Week

Nevada Reading Week began in 1987, when the Nevada Department of Education created an initiative for Nevada teachers and librarians to promote and celebrate reading. This year, the event is being celebrated from February 29 through March 4. The theme for 2015-2016 is:

“Read Explore And Discover”

Nevada Reading week appropriately coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss, who was born on March 2, 1904. The festivities of the week include special events at schools, libraries, and youth centers across the state. Community members, including celebrities, teachers, parents, and students, join together to read and celebrate the magic of books.

I am proud to be a part of this fantastic, weeklong event by donating books to Spread the Word Nevada. This admirable non-profit organization is “dedicated to advancing childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Southern Nevada’s at-risk, low income communities.”

Thank you to Spread the Word Nevada Co-Founders, Laurie Hartig and Lisa Habighorst, for helping to bring the joy of reading to so many children who otherwise would not have the chance to “Read, Explore, and Discover!”

Please get involved by donating books and/or your time to children who deserve to escape to the wonderful world of books. Nevada Reading Week is an awesome event, and it is such a pleasure to be able to contribute to this honorable cause!
